- Frigid Zone: cold climate with very cold temperatures and snow all year.

- Altitude: elevation above sea level, which affects temperature; a 1,000 ft increase in height results in a 3.5°C temperature drop.
- Latitude: distance from the equator, which affects temperature; places near the equator are hotter, while those farther away are cooler.
- Rays of the sun: amount of sunlight a place receives, which affects temperature; equator receives direct sunlight, while temperate zones receive slanting rays.
