Metacognition and Self-Regulated Learning
- Metacognition is the knowledge of how you formulate learning strategies to monitor your progress toward specific objectives.
- Metacognitive regulation is the effective use of different learning strategies to control thinking and problem-solving, including planning, monitoring, and evaluating performance.
- Self-regulated learning is an active process of planning, monitoring, and reflecting on learning. A model by Morita, Tanaka, and Ikeda (2020) outlines three stages (planning, monitoring, evaluating) in self-regulated learning.
- Self-regulated learning processes involve acquiring, retaining, and retrieving knowledge.
