Curriculum originated from the Latin word "currere", meaning "to run". It encompasses the knowledge and skills students are expected to learn, including learning standards and objectives.
Curriculum includes units, lessons, assignments, projects, books, materials, presentations, educational videos, and other learning resources.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) was established on May 18, 1994, by the passage of Republic Act (RA) 7722, the Higher Education Act of 1992.
The Technical Committee for Medical Technology Education (TCMTE) under CHED is responsible for assisting the commission in setting standards for Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology (BSMT) or Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (BSMLS) programs.

Curriculum components include units and lessons taught by teachers, assignments and projects given to students, books, materials, videos, presentations, and readings used in a course, tests, assessments, and methods used to evaluate student learning.

Critical thinking in the 21st century emphasizes the ability to design and manage projects, solve problems, and make effective decisions using various tools and resources.
It challenges educational experiences to address local issues and real-world problems that may not have straightforward solutions.
Critical thinking necessitates acquiring, processing, interpreting, rationalizing, and critically analyzing large amounts of often conflicting information to reach an informed decision and take action promptly.

21st-century communication encompasses effective oral and written communication, proficiency with digital tools, and strong listening skills.
Information and digital literacy are often integrated within communication frameworks.
Distinct information, media, and technology skills are emphasized in other frameworks.
Some jurisdictions include information and communications technology (ICT) skills with literacy and numeracy as foundational curriculum.
Digital tools and resources necessitate navigating a new realm of communication, where mastery of various forms of rhetoric is crucial for success.

Collaboration in the 21st century requires the ability to work in teams, learn from and contribute to the learning of others, utilize social networking skills, and demonstrate empathy in working with diverse individuals.
Developing collective intelligence, co-constructing meaning, and becoming creators of content, not just consumers, are also essential for collaboration.
Collaborative work necessitates new skills and knowledge to enable team members to collaborate digitally and contribute to the collective knowledge base, whether working remotely or in a shared space.

Creativity is paramount for social development, business competitiveness, and economic growth.
Creativity involves pursuing new ideas, concepts, or products that meet a need in the world.
Innovation combines elements of creativity and involves realizing a new idea to make a useful contribution to a specific field.
Creativity encompasses concepts of economic and social entrepreneurialism and leadership for action.

OBE is an educational theory that structures each part of the education system around goals (outcomes).
The goal is for each student to achieve the specified outcomes by the end of their educational experience.
There is no single prescribed style of teaching or assessment in OBE; instead, classes, opportunities, and assessments should be designed to help students achieve the desired outcomes.
The role of faculty adapts to become instructors, trainers, facilitators, and/or mentors, depending on the targeted outcomes.
Students should be provided with learning opportunities that are relevant to their chosen outcomes and facilitate their ability to achieve those outcomes.
