Today, algebra is a fundamental part of basic math education because it teaches students how to analyze patterns, create new rules from existing ones, and make predictions based on what they already know.

Trigonometry has also played an important role throughout history. It was originally developed by astronomers trying to calculate distances between planets and stars without having telescopes. Nowadays, trigonometry helps us measure angles in triangles, find lengths of sides, and even determine heights and positions. This branch uses functions called sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant, and cotangent which relate to one another through various formulas. For example, when you're asked to find the length of one side of a triangle given an angle formed by other two sides, you would refer to trigonometric tables or calculators to get your answer.
