Study Notes
Ordering Integers
- Place integers on a number line with negative numbers on the left and positive numbers on the right.
- The further to the right on the number line the greater the integer.
Integer Operations
- When adding integers, if the signs are the same, add the numbers and keep the sign.
- When adding integers, if the signs are different, subtract the smaller number from the larger number and keep the sign of the larger number.
- When subtracting integers, change the sign of the second integer and then follow the rules for addition.
- When multiplying integers, if the signs are the same, the product is positive.
- When multiplying integers, if the signs are different, the product is negative.
- When dividing integers, follow the same sign rules as multiplication.
Unit Rates
- A unit rate is a ratio that compares a quantity to one unit of another quantity.
- To find a unit rate, divide the quantity by the number of units.
Tables and Graphs
- A table can be used to organize data and find patterns.
- A graph can be used to visualize data and relationships.
- Rates of change can be found from graphs and tables by calculating the change in output divided by the change in input.
