Mastering Soil Erosion and Conservation

The objectives of the Soil and Water Conservation Engineering course are to acquire a fundamental understanding of soil conservation practices and erosion control structures, to develop skills in water conservation and harvesting, and to provide knowledge on watershed development and management.

Soil erosion is a gradual process that occurs when the impact of water or wind detaches and removes soil particles, causing the soil to deteriorate.

Some causes of soil erosion include the destruction of natural protective cover, improper use of land cover such as indiscriminate cutting of trees, overgrazing of vegetative cover, forest fires, keeping the land barren subjecting it to the action of rain and wind, growing of crops that accelerate soil erosion, and removal of organic matter.
