Mastering Open Loop Control Systems

An open loop control system is a system in which the output quantity from the system has no effect on the input signal to the plant. The controlled variable remains constant for a constant commanding signal, if there are no external disturbances.

An example of an open loop control system is a timer-based clothes drier.

A closed loop control system is a system in which the output quantity has an effect on the input signal in such a way as to maintain the desired output value. It can be obtained from an open loop system by providing feedback.
