In the MMT for scapular adduction, where should the PTA palpate?

Middle trapezius between the vertebral border of the scapula and the spinous process of C7 and T1

During the MMT for scapular adduction and depression at 130 degrees, which is the correct direction for applying resistance?

Lateral surface of scapula towards scapular abduction and elevation

Which position should the patient's head be in during the MMT for scapular adduction and depression at 130 degrees?

Prone with head turned to the opposite side of the weak arm

To test the scapular adduction muscles in a manual muscle test, resistance should be directed over which part of the scapula?

The entire medial border

Which muscle is being tested during the MMT for scapular adduction and depression?

Lower trapezius

Which position requires the patient to turn their head away during the test for scapular movement?

Prone with hand resting on glute

Which muscle is tested between the vertebral border of the scapula and the spinous process of C7 to T5?

Rhomboids

During a manual muscle test for scapular adduction-downward rotation, which part of the scapula is assessed for movement?

Middle border

Which muscle is involved in scapular adduction and downward rotation as described in the table?

Rhomboid minor

What scapular movement is described in the context?

Adduction-downward rotation

Study Notes

Manual Muscle Testing (MMT)

Scapular Adduction

  • Patient position: Prone, with head away from the moving arm
  • PTA (Physical Therapist Assistant) position: Contralateral
  • Palpation location: Middle trap, between vertebral border of scapula and spinous process of C7 and T1
  • Resistance direction: Add to medial border of scapula, with resistance directed over the entire medial border
  • Muscle being tested: Middle trapezius

Scapular Adduction with Depression (130 degrees)

  • Patient position: Prone, with head turned to opposite of the weak arm
  • PTA position: Contralateral
  • Palpation location: Lower trap, between root of scapular spine and spinous process of low thoracic
  • Resistance direction: Lateral surface of scapula, towards scapular abduction and elevation
  • Muscle being tested: Lower trapezius

Back Muscles Movement Description

  • Scapular adduction is accompanied by downward rotation, and this movement is facilitated when prone with the hand resting on the gluteal region or with the head turned away.
  • The Rhomboids are involved in the movement of the scapula between the vertebral border and the spinous process of vertebral levels C7 to T5.
  • The middle border of the scapula is associated with movement towards abduction and upward rotation.
  • The Rhomboid major muscle is involved in scapular adduction and downward rotation.
  • The Rhomboid minor muscle is also involved in scapular movement, but its specific function is not described in the provided table.

This quiz covers the techniques and procedures for manual muscle testing, including patient positioning, PTA positioning, palpation, resistance, and muscle identification. It's a useful resource for physical therapy assistants and students.
