Study Notes
YouTube videos come in all shapes and sizes, from entertaining vlogs and music clips to tutorials and instructional guides. However, it's common to find yourself watching something you're just not into anymore. If this happens while you're browsing your suggested feed or scrolling through search results, here are some ways to let YouTube know you don't like what you see:
-
Tap 'Not Interested'. This is located below a video thumbnail when you hover over it with your mouse, or tap on it if you're using mobile. When you do this, YouTube will try its best to stop suggesting similar types of videos to you going forward.
-
Don't click 'Like'. Many people make the mistake of clicking 'like' on things they don't actually enjoy. In reality, when you like something, YouTube thinks you want more of that kind of thing, so avoid hitting 'like' unless you truly appreciate what you've seen.
-
Switch off autoplay. Autoplay can sometimes mean you keep getting served up videos you didn't intend to watch, especially if there was one you weren't keen on in the first place. Disabling autoplay allows you to choose each next video manually.
Remember, YouTube's algorithm thrives on user interaction, so by showing it which kinds of videos you are and aren't likely to engage with, you help tailor your own experience.
