Study Notes
Empirical Literature
- Literature review is a fruitful source of concepts, theories, methodologies, evidences, and influences how we look at a topic.
Developing Objectives and Working Hypothesis
- Objectives: specific, concrete, and achievable statements that indicate what a researcher intends to accomplish.
- Objectives should fit the statement of the problem, be in order of importance, and propose to do things as per the capability of the design of the study.
- Hypotheses: tentative, intelligent guesses to the solution of the problem, often with a 1-1 correspondence with a subproblem.
- Hypotheses can help determine the nature of the research and methods applied.
Steps in Research
Step 6: Analysis
- Analyze the proposed solution to ascertain their meaning.
- Analysis varies with the research type.
Step 7: Result Interpretation
- Interpret the newly proposed solution and suggest a conclusion.
- Discuss results, correlate with objectives, hypotheses, and problem definition.
Step 8: Hypothesis Support
- Results may support or not support the hypotheses.
- If not supported, the researcher may cycle back to an earlier step and begin again with a new hypothesis.
Problem Formulation
- Ensure the problem exists, learn about it, and consider alternative formulations.
- Evaluate the research problem by asking questions about its feasibility, potential outcome, and accessibility of resources.
Delimitations (Scope)
- Research has limitations, and delimitations describe the work that will not be performed.
Assumptions
- Assumptions are things taken for granted, such as the accuracy and consistency of a test instrument.
- Documenting assumptions is better than ignoring them to avoid debates about research results.
