Flashcards

Linear City

The linear city concept was conceived by Spanish urban planner, Soria Mata in 1882 to address the issues of existing cities by connecting them with linear developments.

Soria Mata's City Ideas

Soria Mata believed that cities should be integrated with the countryside, with each family owning a house with a large garden (minimum 400 m2, building on only 280 m2).

Linear City Layout

The linear city has a main transportation artery of 50m wide. Residential zones are within 200m of the road. Services are along the road, and factories/farms are on the city outskirts.

Garden City

Proposed by Ebenezer Howard in 1898, it aimed to combine the benefits of city and countryside, avoiding the disadvantages of both.

Study Notes
