Policy Details:
- When a life safety system is legitimately activated in a building/structure, the Fire Marshal's office must be notified via email to [email protected].
- This notification provides the Fire Marshal's office with timely information and allows the system to be placed back in service quickly.
- The email should include all listed information and the Incident number.
Procedure:
- If a life safety system activates, other than due to a malfunction or false alarm, the Lieutenant or Operational Captain must gather all required information before leaving the scene.
- Note: The information should include, but isn't limited to:
- Property address and location.
- Date and time of incident.
- Property contact name and phone number.
- What activated the system (hood, sprinkler, etc.) and location.
- Whether the system was back in service before leaving.
- The Lieutenant or Operational Captain's next scheduled shift, station assignment, and contact information.
- The Fire Marshal's office will assign an Inspector to investigate the activation circumstances and minimize repeat incidents.
- For repeated false fire alarm activations, refer to False Alarm Billing (PPM FR-F-303).
