Life and Works of Rizal: History, RA 1425

Republic Act 1425, also known as the Rizal Law, mandates the study of Jose Rizal's life and works in all Philippine universities and colleges.

RA 1425 aims to instill nationalism by examining Rizal's contributions. It encourages critical thinking and understanding of national identity.

The Rizal Law requires all schools, colleges, and universities to include courses on Rizal's life, works, and writings, especially 'Noli Me Tangere' and 'El Filibusterismo'.

Section 1 of RA 1425 mandates Rizal courses in schools and universities, using unexpurgated editions of his novels or their English translations.

Section 2 of RA 1425 obligates schools, colleges, and universities to maintain an adequate number of copies of Rizal's works.

Section 3 of RA 1425 legalizes all forms of translations of Rizal's writings.

Section 4 of RA 1425 does not amend or repeal the Administrative Code prohibiting religious doctrine discussions by public school teachers.

Section 5 of RA 1425 allocates funds for carrying out the purposes of this Act.

Claro M. Recto authored the Rizal Bill, which later became Republic Act 1425.

Memorandum Order No. 247 directs the full implementation of Republic Act No. 1425 in schools and universities.

Republic Act No. 229 prohibits cockfighting, horse racing and jai-alai on Rizal Day
