Therapeutic Actions and Indications
- Increases metabolic rate, oxygen consumption, respiration, heart rate, and metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
- Indicated for treating hypothyroidism, euthyroid goiters, thyroid cancer, thyrotoxicosis, and myxedema coma.
Drug Interactions
- Absorption can be decreased when taken with cholestyramine; should be taken 2 hours apart.
- Dosing adjustments may be necessary for anticoagulants when taken concurrently.
Pharmacokinetics
- Administered orally; metabolized in the liver and excreted via bile.
Contraindications and Cautions
