1. Levels of the Government

  • National/Federal government is found at the highest level of the government in the country.
  • The national government has judicial control of the country and is responsible for the overall running of the whole country.
  • It consists of the State President, Deputy President, and Ministers.
  • Provincial/Regional government is the second level of government after the national government.
  • It is responsible for the running of the province and is funded by the national government.
  • It consists of the the Premier and Members of Executive Committees (MECs).
  • Local government is the third level of the government.
  • It works for the running of the municipality and is run/led by the provincial government.
  • It is led/run by the Mayor and Councillors.

2. Roles of the Government

  • The Legislative drafts and passes laws.
  • The Executive implements laws.
  • The Judiciary make decisions according to the law (independent of the government).

3. Government role in assisting businesses as consumers of goods and services

  • Provide extra structure (transport) in a form of roads, bridges, railways, dams, etc. is government to use in their business activities
  • Provide infrastructure (extending in a form of hospitals, clinics, roads, sanitation, or regular hospital maternal hospitals), etc
