Legislative Branch
- The Legislative Branch is responsible for writing and voting on laws.
- Congress, a part of the Legislative Branch, is divided into two parts: the House of Representatives and the Senate.
House of Representatives
- The House of Representatives has 435 members, known as Representatives.
- Representatives are elected by the people of each state and serve a term of two years.
Senate
- The Senate has 100 members, known as Senators.
- Senators are elected by the people of each state and serve a term of six years.
- To become a Senator, a person must be at least 30 years old, a citizen of the United States for at least nine years, and a resident of the state they will represent.
Legislative Process
- The first step in the Legislative Process is the introduction of a bill in Congress.
- For a bill to pass in Congress, it must receive a majority of votes from both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
- If a bill receives a majority of votes, it is sent to the President for signing or vetoing.
Checks and Balances
