Field Trip

• A field trip is a visit to a location outside the school designed to achieve certain objectives that cannot be achieved as well by using other means.
• Field trip is also known as an instructional trip, school excursion, or school journey.
• Field trip was introduced by George Shillibeer in 1827 for a Quaker school at Abney Park in Stoke Newington, London, UK.
• Features of field trip:
  • Facilitates the learning of abstract concepts
  • Motivates students by increasing their curiosity and interest
  • Provides a unique opportunity for learning that is not available within the classroom
  • Can be conducted in locations such as zoos, colleges, museums, theaters, and schools
