Mowing
- Mowing height and frequency are crucial.
- Maintain a sharp mower blade.
- Adjust mowing frequency based on lawn size.
- Ideally, 1-2 blade sharpenings per year.
- Remove no more than ⅓ of the grass blade per mowing.
Watering
- During hot and dry periods, water consistently to maintain desired green color.
- Deep watering is best– saturate the soil to strengthen the roots and reduce runoff.
- Avoid midday and evening watering.
- Water before darkness to prevent turf injury;
- Ideal watering times are morning hours.
- Minimum nighttime temperatures below 50°F, to ensure sufficient drying before dark.
Blade Measurement
- For safety, measure blade height when power supply is disconnected (for gas mowers, disconnect the spark plug wire or battery for electric mowers).
- Measure perpendicular distance between blade edge and the soil.
- Refer to recommended blade heights by type of grass.
