SOAKING - Soaking loosens the dirt from clothes. Soak clothes either in a big pail, completely immersed in water, or in the washing machine. Be sure the detergent is fully dissolved before you soak the clothes. Always wash dark colors separately until you are sure that the dyes do not run. Preserve the brightness of colored clothes by soaking them in a bucket of cold water with a handful of salt added before washing them for the first time. Bleaching Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for dilution. Dilute bleach before using it. Hand Washing After sorting your clothes, follow these steps to hand wash them: 1. Fill your laundry basin with water. Room temperature water is ideal but if clothing is heavily soiled, very carefully use the hottest water possible for the fabric. 2.Add laundry detergent to the water and mix it with your hands. Place your clothing in the soapy water. 3.Stir the clothing around the basin for 5 to 10 minutes. Rub the fabric against each other in between your hands to work the soapy water into the fabric's fibers. Allow your clothing to sit in the soapy water for 20-30 minutes. 4. Drain the wash from the basin. Fill it with cold water and add 1 cup of white vinegar.
