Albert Einstein's Life Story
Early Years
Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879, in Ulm, Germany. His father, Hermann Einstein, was an electrical engineer while his mother, Pauline Kohn, was a homemaker. He received his early education at the Luitpold Gymnasium in Munich, later moving to Switzerland to attend the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich, graduating in 1900 as a teacher of mathematics and physics.
Career and Discoveries
Einstein began working as a technical assistant in the patent office in Bern, Switzerland in 1902. During this period, he developed the Special Theory of General Relativity, which fundamentally transformed our understanding of space and time. In November 1915, he presented his generalized theory during a series of lectures at Princeton University.
In 1916, Einstein put forward his theory of gravitation, known as General Relativity. By 1917, he had derived the Schwarzschild solution, which described the geometry of spacetime near a massive body like a planet or star. This theory predicted phenomena like gravitational waves, black holes, and the expansion of the universe.
Personal Life
On June 2, 1919, Einstein married Elsa Einstein, who remained his devoted companion until her death in December 1936. Together they raised their son Hans Albert.
Later Years and Legacy
From 1933 to 1940, Einstein lived in the United States, initially at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. During this period, he wrote his famous book, Relativity, the Special and the General Theory, which helped make his groundbreaking theories accessible to the broader public.
Einstein passed away on April 18, 1955, leaving behind an enduring legacy in the fields of physics and cosmology. His contributions continue to shape our understanding of the universe and our place within it.
