Kidney (Calyces and Pelvis)
- Kidney stones in this region often don't cause any symptoms.
- A dull ache in the side (flank) may occur with gradual or partial blockage.
Bladder
- Bladder stones typically cause minimal symptoms.
- A dull pain in the lower abdomen (suprapubic) may occur during exercise or after urinating.
Ureter (Renal Colic)
- Ureteral stones cause intense, sharp pain in the side (flank).
- The pain from a ureteral stone can radiate to the lower abdomen, groin, and genitals.
- Symptoms associated with ureteral stones include nausea, vomiting, paleness, and cold, clammy skin.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
- UTI symptoms can accompany kidney stones.
- Symptoms include chills, fever, frequent and urgent urination, and painful urination (dysuria).
Hematuria
- Blood in the urine, visible or microscopic, can occur due to injury to the urinary tract.
- Visible blood in the urine (gross hematuria) may be the only symptom of bladder stones.
Kidney (Calyces and Pelvis)
- May not cause any symptoms.
- Dull, aching pain in the back may occur when the flow of urine is slowed or partially blocked.
