    • The policy establishes guidelines for a smoke-free work environment in compliance with the City of Kansas City, Missouri ordinance Article XII, Sections 34-471 and 34-480.

    Terminology

    • Lighted: Ignited, activated, illuminated, or powered on.
    • Smoking Materials: Include but are not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), and other smoking devices.
    • Department Vehicle: Any assigned marked or unmarked police vehicle/motorcycle utilized for related police business.

    Policy

    • Members are prohibited from possessing lighted smoking materials:
      • In any enclosed facility, including garages.
      • In or on any department vehicles/motorcycles.
    • Possession of lighted smoking materials is prohibited:
      • In a manner that impedes the entrance or exit of any building owned by the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
      • Within twenty (20) feet of any entrance, exit, open window, overhead garage door, or ventilation intake system of any building utilized by the Department and/or owned by the City.
    • Members are allowed to use smoking materials in certain assignments due to the nature of their work.
    • Members who chew tobacco must expel it into a clearly sealable container.
    • Members are prohibited from spitting tobacco spit into Department trash receptacles.

    Enforcement
