Junior Basketball By-laws Overview

Players can wear medical wristbands as long as they aren't dangerous to others and are properly secured (e.g., with medical strapping or a sweatband).

Penalties can be given any time during the game or up to 10 minutes after.

Duty Managers provide stadium shirts, and lost/unreturned shirts are charged to the team.

Teams with reversible shirts must switch their shirts when a color clash occurs.

If both teams have reversible shirts, but cannot agree, Team A must switch shirts.

The Willetton Basketball Association can change competition rules during a season if needed.

Junior committee decides if a player can transfer teams and if that transfer into a club is agreeable.

Transfer of a player must follow the procedures of both previous and intended clubs.

Players must wear proper basketball uniform; shirts must be CAC approved and unmodified with numbers on the front and back, and not tight compression sleeves/skins of certain colours.

Players must wear a shirt approved by the Committee and with a number on.

Junior committee determines, if a transfer is between the clubs.

Tight compression undergarments (skins) are not allowed during game unless the colour is black, white, beige or the same primary colour as the jersey.

A team forfeiting a game results in a 0-0 loss for both teams.

A team forfeiting three times in a season can be removed from the competition by the CAC.

A team can challenge an association invoice, temporarily delaying it from becoming overdue. If the protest is denied, the invoice immediately becomes overdue.

Minor round games have two 20-minute halves with a running clock.

Finals games have two halves: the first is 20 minutes running clock, the second is 17 minutes running clock plus 3 minutes stopped clock.

Extra periods are only played in the finals series and are 3 minutes long with a stopped clock.

The first half of Under 8 games focuses on skill development with association and team coaches.

There are no finals games for Under 10A teams.

A technical foul is charged against the coach if a team uses a prohibited zone defense.

A team is in a team foul penalty situation when it commits seven (7) team fouls in a half, resulting in free throws for the opposing team on the eighth team foul.

The 'Mercy Rule' is the team foul penalty rule (16.6.3) that applies when a team commits seven (7) fouls in a half.

If a team is leading by a certain point difference, they must retreat to the half-court line after a dead ball until the other team brings the ball into the offensive frontcourt.

It's the coach's responsibility to ensure their team follows the 'Mercy Rule' when appropriate.

An official or staff member of the association has the authority to ask any person over eighteen (18) years old to leave the stadium.

The closer (6.25m) three-point line is used when available.

The further (6.75m) three-point line is used.

A player who is not eligible to play in the game due to not being officially registered to play on the team or not meeting the rules for the game (e.g., age or experience).

A player who has been selected to represent their team in official games and competitions.

A limit is set for the number of representative players allowed to play in a game, especially in certain age groups (e.g., G18A and below).

A game that is not part of a championship series, except for games that were canceled due to weather (wasHOUTs).

Players can wear compression undergarments, but they can't be too tight or too colorful. The color needs to be black, white, beige, or the same primary color as the jersey.

The Junior Committee decides whether a representative player can transfer to a different team or stay on their current team.

Players must wear CAC approved shirts that have numbers on front and back and are unmodified. They are not allowed to wear tight compression sleeves or skins that are not black, white, beige, or the same color as their jerseys.

The only numbers allowed on uniforms are 4 -15, 20 - 25, 30 - 35, 40 - 45, and 50 - 55.

A player can bounce the ball a maximum of 5 times, except for a fast break on an open court.

A fast break on an open court is an exception to the bounce limit rule, allowing unlimited bounces.

Players can wear compression garments under their shorts as long as they are predominantly black, white, or the team color.

In out-of-bounds situations in the offensive frontcourt, all players must vacate the keyway until the ball is handed in.

The defense must retreat to half court after a basket is scored and in all out-of-bounds situations in the offensive backcourt.
