Geography of Jakarta

Location

Located on the northwest coast of Java, Indonesia
Situated on the Java Sea, at the mouth of the Liwung River

Topography

Jakarta is a low-lying area, with an average elevation of 7 meters (23 ft) above sea level
The city is surrounded by mountains to the south, and swamps and mangrove forests to the north

Climate

Tropical monsoon climate, with high temperatures and high humidity throughout the year
Two main seasons: dry season (May to September) and wet season (October to April)

Administrative Divisions

Divided into five municipalities (Kota Administrasi):
1. Central Jakarta (Jakarta Pusat)
2. West Jakarta (Jakarta Barat)
3. South Jakarta (Jakarta Selatan)
4. East Jakarta (Jakarta Timur)
5. North Jakarta (Jakarta Utara)

Urban area: 662.33 km² (255.35 sq mi)
