Pillars of Islam
- The Five Pillars of Islam are the fundamental practices of the Islamic faith
- They are obligatory for all Muslims and are the foundation of Islam
1. Shahada (Declaration of Faith)
- The declaration that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah
- The first and most important pillar of Islam
2. Salat (Prayer)
- Performing the five daily prayers, facing towards the holy city of Mecca
- Prayer is a direct connection between the individual and Allah
3. Zakat (Charity)
- Giving a portion of one's wealth to the poor and needy
- Purifies one's wealth and soul
4. Sawm (Fasting)
- Fasting during the month of Ramadan
- Develops self-control, empathy for those in need, and brings one closer to Allah
5. Hajj (Pilgrimage)
- Making a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca at least once in a lifetime
- A symbol of unity and equality among Muslims
