Define Small for Gestational Age (SGA)
SGA is defined as an estimated fetal weight or abdominal circumference below the 10th percentile for gestational age.

How should fetal growth restriction (FGR) be defined?
The definition of fetal growth restriction should be based on a combination of measures of fetal size and Doppler abnormalities.

Study Notes
Prediction of SGA/FGR
- Women should undergo risk stratification for SGA/FGR at the first-trimester antenatal booking visit based on history-based risk assessment.
- Women with a major risk factor for SGA/FGR should be referred for serial ultrasound measurement of fetal growth and wellbeing from 26-28 weeks’ gestation.
- Women with 3 or more minor risk factors should be offered uterine artery Doppler at 20-24 weeks of gestation.
Definition of SGA and FGR
- Small for gestational age (SGA) is defined as an estimated fetal weight or abdominal circumference below the 10th percentile for gestational age.
- Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is defined as a combination of measures of fetal size and Doppler abnormalities.
Delphi Procedure Definitions for Placental-Mediated FGR
- Early onset FGR (95th centile) is defined using a combination of measures including: • AC (fetal abdominal circumference) • AREDV (absent or reversed end-diastolic velocity) • CPR (cerebro-placental ratio) • EFW (estimated fetal weight) • PI (pulsatility index) • UA (umbilical artery) • UtA (uterine artery)
