What is a Computer?
- A computer is a smart machine.
- Computers use electricity.
- Computers perform many tasks, including writing letters, doing math, sending emails, drawing pictures, listening to music, watching movies, and playing games.
- Computers have multiple parts which work together.
- Computers are fast.
- Computers use 'chips' to follow instructions and manage a large amount of information in various forms (text, pictures, video, etc).
Types of Computers
- Desktop: A desktop computer sits on a desk or table. It needs electricity to work and is made up of various parts.
- Laptop: A laptop is portable. It functions like a desktop but is compact. It has a battery, making it portable.
- Tablet: A tablet is smaller and lighter than a laptop. It has a touchscreen.
- Smartphone: A smartphone is a mobile phone that can also function like a tablet.
How a Computer Works
- Input: The user provides input to the computer using a keyboard or mouse.
- Process: The computer processes the input. This is how the computer does a task.
- Output: The computer displays the result (output) on a monitor or printer.
- Computers receive input, process it, and provide output. This is a fundamental function.
What is a Machine?
- Machines are man-made things.
- We use machines for household work.
- Machines help save time and energy.
- Machines help us stay healthy.
- Some machines are used for entertainment, including washing machines, ovens, mixer grinders, headphones, music systems, televisions, bicycles, auto-rickshaws, and airplanes.
- Some machines require fuel, electricity, or batteries.
- Machines can sometimes be operated using human force.
