Implicit and Explicit Description
- An implicit description is when the author shows the reader what happened without directly stating the emotions or feelings.
- An explicit description is when the author directly states the emotions or feelings.
- Example: "Katie hung up the phone and stormed out the door" (implicit) vs. "The phone call made Katie so mad that she slammed the door as she left the house" (explicit).
Language Tools
- A pun is a word or phrase with a double meaning, used to create humor.
- Examples of puns:
- "Sounds like that frog had a bad day; he croaked after eating the fly."
- "I couldn't figure out why the ball was getting bigger, then it hit me!"
- "Where do lambs post their videos? On Ewe Tube!"
- Irony is a difference between what is expected and what happens.
- Types of irony:
- Verbal irony: when words are meant to suggest an opposite meaning.
- Situational irony: when the opposite of what is expected to happen occurs.
- Dramatic irony: when the audience knows something the characters do not.
Figurative Language
- Symbolism is the use of visible objects to represent ideas or feelings.

Point of View
