The Internet and World Wide Web

  • The internet is a global computer network connecting computers and devices for communication.
  • The World Wide Web (WWW) is a service on the internet, consisting of billions of web pages, used to find information.

Websites and Web Pages

  • A website is a group of related web pages linked together.
  • A website has a home page and other related web pages, connected through hyperlinks.
  • Hyperlinks allow users to navigate between web pages.

Connecting to the Internet

  • A smartphone can be used to connect to the internet using a cellular connection provided by a mobile service provider.
  • A fixed (non-mobile) connection can be used through an Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as fibre to the home, work, or school.
  • WiFi is used to connect wirelessly to a fixed connection.

Browsing the Web

  • A web browser is a program used to view content on the web.
