Types of Intellectual Property

  • The goal of IP is to strike a balance between the interests of innovators and the wider public interest.
  • Copyright is a legal term used to describe the rights that creators have over their literary and artistic works.
  • There are two types of rights under copyright: Economic Rights and Moral Rights.
  • Economic Rights allow the rights owner to derive financial reward from the use of their works by others.
  • Moral Rights protect the non-economic interests of the author, covering reputation and integrity of the creator.
