Indian Railways (Warehousing and Wharfage) Rules 1958

  • Short Title: Railways (Warehousing and Wharfage) Rules 1958
  • Purpose: Regulate terms and conditions for warehousing and retaining goods, animals, and use of rolling stock, engines, and trains.
  • Scope: Applies to Central, Eastern, Northern, North Eastern, Northeast Frontier, Southern, South Central, South Eastern, and Western Railway systems in India.

Wharfage on Goods, Luggage, and Parcels

  • General Wharfage: Charged based on commodity type and storage location (covered shed or open shed).
  • Rates: Vary based on commodity type (Group I, II, and III stations), storage location, and duration. Different rates for bulk goods like coal, charcoal, stones, etc.
  • Free Time: Vary depending on commodity, storage location, and type of station. Free time is usually 1-3 days depending on the situation, but rates are adjusted to 50 % for periods after the initial free time

  • Responsibility: Railway administration is not responsible for vehicles left on premises longer than 24 hours, owner is responsible.
  • Despatch Order: Similar charges apply to vehicles brought for despatch and awaiting order.

  • Suckling/Calves: Wharfage also applies to sucklings.

Lost Property

Left Luggage Offices or Clock Rooms
