Study Notes
Elapsed Time Notification (ETN)
- Provides the Incident Commander (IC) with a time-based measuring standard to assess the effectiveness of the Incident Action Plan (IAP) on the fire.
- Enables the IC to review the IAP on an ongoing basis.
ETN Procedure
- Communications notify the IC at every 10-minute increment with the time resources have been on scene until the incident is under control.
- The IC can cancel the ETN through communications based on incident conditions.
- The IC can request TFS Communications to continue the ETN.
- The IC acknowledges communications and re-affirms the strategic mode (offensive or defensive) and states any benchmarks initiated and/or completed.
- ETN is initiated by Communications once crews are on scene and a working fire or second alarm has been transmitted/requested.
ETN Example
- "Yonge St. Command, Toronto Fire, ETN 10 minutes"
- "Roger Toronto Fire, this is command, we are still in the offensive mode, 360 complete and primary search initiated"
