Property Tax System

  • The MMC Act, 1888 section 154 (1C) allows capital value revision every five years fixed under 154 (1A). Revisions postponed for four years by adding 154 (1D). Under MMC Act, section 140A increase at amendment's end should not exceed 40% of previous year's tax.

Sewerage Operations Department

  • The Sewerage Operations Department maintains the Sewerage Network, Sewage Pumping Stations, Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) and Waste Water Treatment Facilities (WWTF) in Mumbai's seven sewerage zones
  • Sewage flows via underground sewer network to Satellite Pumping Stations, then treated at eight Sewage Treatment Plants, and disposed into sea/creeks
  • Repairs and rehabilitation of sewer lines are conducted
  • Recycling plants are installed at sewage pumping stations for reuse of sewage for non-potable purposes

  • Complaints are mostly resolved within 24 hours
  • Operations Department staff: 08 Deputy Chief Engineers, 22 Executive Engineers, 60 Assistant Engineers, 122 Sub Engineers, 112 Junior Engineers / overseas, 3,816 skilled / unskilled labour employees

  • The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 campaign aims to achieve waste segregation at the household level, scientific treatment of legacy waste, aspirational toilets, and 100% sewage management.
  • A Rs. 1162 Crore proposal for treatment of legacy waste at Mulund and Deonar is proposed.
    • Central share totals Rs. 290.55 Cr (25%), State share is valued at Rs. 406.77 Cr (35%) share of this Rs. 697.32 Cr.
    • Rs 139 Cr received & Rs. 56.5 Cr used for Mulund
  • A City sanitation action plan approved includes
    • 15,000 community chairs
    • 400 toilets
    • 4672 individual facilities
    • 500 urinals
  • 'Swachhata Suraksha Shibir' activities were undertaken from 17th Sep to 2nd Oct, 2023. On 17th Sep 2023, a special program was held
  • "Ek Ghanta Ek Tariq' encouraged citizens on Oct 1st.
  • 250 Junior Overseas (JO)'s & Engineers working in wards sent to Indore for overview of cleanliness model of cleanest city.
  • Visits included waste collection / segregation at source, centralized processing and control room
  • Removal of Dead Animals: -Removal is carried out through concerned ward assistant commissioner or solid waste management department officers

Guidelines Governing Public Cleanliness

  • Greater Mumbai Cleanliness & Sanitation Byelaws, 2006, framed under section 461 (ee) of the MMC Act, 1888 are in place.
  • Citizens are subject to penalties for violating the set cleanliness byelaws.

Deonar Dumping Ground

  • Receives about 500-600 MT of garbage daily and pollution control measures around it
  • Sprays herbal deodorant on solid waste
  • Uses water tankers for fire and smoke
  • Has pipes for flaring gases
  • Monitors air pollution at Shivajinagar School
  • Developing 600 MT waste to energy project.

Kanjur MSW Processing Site

  • BMC was handed a 141.77 hectares plot at Kanjur to BMC
  • Processing facility has environment clearance for 65.96 Hectares non CRZ area. Renewed authorization from MPCB is received on 23 August 2022
  • Also received clearance from SEIAA on 29 October 2018 for scientific processing of MSW in 52.45 CRZ-III area

Kanjur Measures for odor control

  • Spraying enzyme-based deodorant around the clock.
  • Installing misting arrangement to reduce smell
  • Using flaring system to reduce odour
  • Covering inactive bio-reactor cell areas

Waste To Energy Projects

  • The Waste to Energy Project at Deonar: Tendering process is finished for a project that will process 600 TPD og MSW, and is expected to be commissioned in the coming October
  • Project Reclamation at Mulund: The work to this project commenced from October 2019

Collection, Transportation, Processing & Disposal Waste

  • Planned 1,200 TPD. The tender has been completed

Scientific Processing and Village Waste

  • The government of Maharashtra designated 52.10 Ha of land to Karavale

Deep Cleaning & Sanitation

  • The Launch of "Deep Cleaning program" in December of 2023 by Maharashtra reduced Air Pollution and engaged the community.
  • The Slum Sanitation Program was launched in 1997 provides the improvement of the maintenance and sanitation of many areas
