- The introduction should present the task.
- One sentence is usually sufficient, but two sentences can also be used.
- Paraphrase the task sentence rather than copying directly.
- Replace "the chart" with the type of chart, e.g., line chart, bar chart, pie chart, or graphs/charts for multiple charts.
- Use "the diagram" to describe a diagram.
- Use the verb "to show" or synonyms, such as "to illustrate," "to display," "to provide information on," and "to give information about."
- Consider the best verb for your sentence.
- Paraphrase the main part of the task by finding synonyms for key words or changing the word form, e.g., "production" to "produce" and "consumption" to "consume."
- Add the words, "changes," "amount," or "level" if they make sense in your sentence.
- Summarize the time period by using "in the Years," "in two time periods," "from to," "over a year period," "in two countries," "in two European countries," or "two countries in Europe."
- Including units of measurement in the introduction is optional, as you will repeat the unit throughout the report.
Paraphrasing Techniques

- Look for synonyms for key words or change their form.
- Question words, such as "which," "what," "how much," "how," can be used to change the sentence structure.
