Low Income Cut-Offs (LICO)
- An income threshold below which a family is likely to spend a larger percentage of their income on necessities (food, shelter, clothing).
- First published in 1967 and a widely recognized measure of low income.
- Based on the estimated income threshold where families spend 20% more on necessities compared to the average family.
Other Measures

The Gini Coefficient
- Measures the level of inequality in income or wealth distribution.
- Ranges from 0 to 1:
- 0 signifies perfect equality (everyone has the same income).

Ideal Distribution of Wealth

- The middle 60% would own 60% of the wealth.
- The richest would be three times richer than the poorest, who would still own a significant share of the wealth.
