Study Notes
Hip Bone
- The acetabular fossa is located on the lateral surface of the hip bone, not the medial surface.
Femur
- The distal end of the femur articulates with the tibia and the patella.
- The linea aspera is a feature of the diaphysis (shaft) of the femur.
- The intercondylar fossa is a feature of the distal epiphysis of the femur.
Tibia
- The tibia has a medial malleolus, a medial condyle, a tuberosity, and a soleal line.
- The tibia does not have a head.
Scapula
- The lateral angle of the scapula includes the glenoid cavity, the infraglenoid tubercle, the coracoid process, and the suprascapular notch.
- The superior angle of the scapula does not have the glenoid cavity, the infraglenoid tubercle, the coracoid process, or the suprascapular notch.
Clavicle
- The medial end of the clavicle articulates with the first costal cartilage.
- The lateral end of the clavicle articulates with the acromion of the scapula.
- The anterior border of the clavicle is convex in the lateral one-third and concave in the medial two-thirds.
Vertebrae
- Cervical Vertebrae:
- The transverse foramina of cervical vertebrae contain the vertebral artery.
- Lumbar Vertebrae:
- Lumbar vertebrae do not have transverse foramina.
Ribs
- The 2nd rib articulates with both the manubrium and the body of the sternum.
Axis (C2)
- The odontoid process (dens) of the axis articulates with the anterior arch of the atlas (C1).
Navicular
- The navicular articulates with the talus posteriorly, the cuboid laterally, and the three cuneiform bones anteriorly.
- The navicular does not articulate with the 1st metatarsal.
