Human Eye Anatomy
- The human eye is approximately spherical in shape.
Sclera
- The sclera is the outermost, white part of the eye.
- It is covered by conjunctiva, which are clear mucus membranes that lubricate the eye.
- Muscles are attached to the sclera to help move the eyeball up and down, and side to side.
- The sclera functions as a supporting wall of the eyeball, maintaining its shape, and protecting it from injury.
Extraocular Muscles
- There are six extraocular muscles that attach to the eye to move it.
- These muscles originate in the eye socket (orbit) and work to move the eye:
- Up
- Down
- Side to side
- Rotate the eye
Uvea (Uveal Tract)
- The uvea is the middle layer of the wall of the eye.
