The sensory system consists of six organs.

The sclera is the layer of the eye that is rich in blood vessels.

The cornea is the white part of the eye.

The pupil is a pigmented, muscular diaphragm.

The conjunctiva lines the inner surface of the eyelids only.

The eye is a simple, intricate structure.

The retina is the outermost layer of the eyeball.

There are 125 million cones and 7 million rods in each eye.

The optic nerve is a collection of nerve fibres that connects the front of the retina to the brain.

The anterior compartment is filled with a jelly-like substance called the vitreous body.

The ciliary body muscles change the shape of the cornea to focus on objects at varying distances.

The brain interprets the impulses received from each eye and integrates them into a two-dimensional image.
