Study Notes
Rectus Abdominis
- The rectus abdominis is a long, flat muscle located on the front (anterior) of your abdominal wall.
- You have two of these muscles - one on each side of your body, and they are separated by a band of connective tissue called the linea alba.
- It gets wider and thinner as it goes up from the pubic symphysis (where your pelvic bones meet in the front) to the costal margin (the bottom edge of your rib cage).
- You can see three or four tendinous intersections (bands of connective tissue) running across this muscle if it's well-developed.
