Study Notes

  • Participants answer questions about the structure and function of organs and human body systems in this event

Participants

  • There should be 2 students from each team

Event Time

  • 50 minutes are allocated for the event

Safety

  • No safety equipment is required

Resources

  • Teams have one 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper with information on both sides that can come from any source or format

  • Participants can use a pen or pencil

Event Format

  • A room should be set up with 10 to 15 stations each featuring 6-8 questions about an organ, or human body system
  • Models, slides, pictures, or information relating to the organ or human body system can be used to help the participants answer the questions
  • Event supervisors provide models, slides, pictures, information, and questions for each station
  • Event supervisors also provide an answer sheet for participants to record their answers

Participant actions

  • Working with partners, participants start at an Event Supervisor-assigned station and answer the questions
  • Participants must analyze information to answer each question, which should take between 3 and 5 minutes (depending on the number of stations)
  • Participants rotate to a new station designated by the Event Supervisor and answer questions found there upon a signal
  • The stations should be left as they were found when the participants rotate
  • Participants cannot return to previous stations

Human Body System

  • Participants must know the function and purpose of the human body system
  • Participants must know the organs that constitute the human body system
  • Participants must know the location of each organ
  • Participants must know the structure and function of each organ
  • Human body systems included within the event are:
    • Skeletal
    • Muscular
    • Digestive
    • Respiratory
    • Circulatory
    • Excretory
    • Nervous
    • Endocrine
    • Sensory

Scoring

  • Points are awarded for correct answers
  • The highest number of points wins
  • Tiebreakers include:
    • Correct spelling of the answers
