Charles III is the King of the United Kingdom and the 14 other Commonwealth realms, succeeding his mother Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022. He was born in 1948 and became the heir apparent at age three. He was made Prince of Wales in 1958 and attended Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, later earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cambridge. He served in the Royal Air Force and Navy for five years. He founded The Prince's Trust in 1976 and is a patron, president, or member of over 400 other charities and organizations. He has published over 20 books and is an advocate for the conservation of historic buildings and organic farming. He married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, with whom he had two sons, and divorced in 1996.
