The purpose of the policy is to provide and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) for Chesapeake Fire Department members.
PPE must be of the proper type, design, strength, and quality to eliminate, preclude, or mitigate hazards.
The department will provide approved PPE on an as-needed basis appropriate for the hazard.
PPE must comply with national standards and be maintained in a safe and sanitary condition.
Members must wear PPE any time there is a risk of exposure to a hazard.
PPE includes head, face and eye, body, hand, and foot protection.
A second set of PPE will be issued to all members who are located in a workplace where there is a risk of injury.
Members and officers are responsible for ensuring the correct set of PPE is being used during the rotation.
PPE selection, care, and maintenance must be conducted according to a program.
An inspection team is responsible for conducting annual advanced inspections, cleaning, and repairs.
