Thomas Edison
- Thomas Edison was an American Inevntor.
- In 1890, he invented the Kinetoscope, a machine that could project moving images onto a screen.
Eadweard Muybridge
- Eadweard Muybridge is considered the Father of Motion Pictures.
- In 1872, he began experimenting with motion photography.
- He was hired by railroad magnate Leland Stanford to prove that all four legs of a horse are off the ground at the same time while trotting.
- The Horse in Motion was made in 1878.
Lumiere Brothers
- Auguste and Louis Lumiere are brothers.
- At 17, Louis invented a highly sensitive photographic plate.
- They invented a successful prototype of the Cinématographe.
- The Cinématographe was patented in France on 13 February 1895, and was a camera, printer, and projector.
- More compact than other projectors and it did not rely on electrical power.
- In Paris, on 28 December 1895, the Cinematographe was launched publicly and is considered the formal birth of cinema.
- There were twenty shows a day, each show comprised of ten films and lasted about 15 minutes.
- Show times were 10.00-01.30, with breaks at 12.00-14.00 and 19.00-20.00.
- Admission was one franc.
- There was little public interest at first, but eventually the queue extended a quarter of a mile.
