Prehistory Period of Assam
- The epic Mahabharata is considered the highest source of the Prehistory period of Assam.
Ancient Assam
- In ancient times, Assam was known as Pragjyotishpur.
- The earliest king of Pragjyotishpur was Bhagadatta.
- Mahiranga was Sanskritized from a place called Mahiangalaya.
Kingdom of Pragjyotisha
- According to Ramayana, Bhagadatta was the founder of the kingdom of Pragjyotisha.
