Hindi Language Overview
With over 615 million native speakers worldwide, Hindi is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. It originates from ancient Sanskrit and Prakrit dialects, serving as the lingua franca for India's diverse population. Literature
As a vibrant language with a rich history spanning thousands of years, Hindi has nurtured countless authors who have left indelible marks through their literary contributions. Some renowned figures include Amir Khusrow (1253–1325), Tulsidas (c. 1548 – c. 1623), Mirza Ghalib (1797–1869), Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941), Mahadevi Verma (1907–1987), and Jhinklal Nehru (1910–1966). From poetry, drama, and prose to folk tales and epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, Hindi literature reflects various facets of life such as love, war, religion, social issues, and personal experiences.
Writing System
Hindi employs two primary scripts—Devanagari and Perso-Arabic scripts. Devanagari, derived from Brahmi script, uses letters developed specifically for the Indo-Aryan sound system. Conversely, the Perso-Arabic script resembles Urdu, another official Indian language used mainly in Pakistan and parts of India. Both systems effectively convey meaning in Hindi.

Pronunciation

Hindi's verb conjugations follow a broadly consistent pattern across three main person categories (first, second, third) and six tense forms (present simple, past simple, future simple, present continuous, past continuous, and perfect).
Vocabulary
Building one's confidence in understanding and using Hindi requires a solid foundation in vocabulary. Common Hindi words can be easily assimilated from everyday conversations, books, films, and media sources. Hindi also embraces multiple borrowings from Sanskrit, Persian, Urdu, English, and other languages. For example, "Hindustani," which refers collectively to Hindi and Urdu, derives from Persian roots.
