Helicopter Transport Criteria
- Air Rescue is available through Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue.
- Air Rescue is on a “Go” or “No-Go” status, “Stand By” is no longer used.
- Approximate dispatch to launch time: 5-7 minutes.
- Air Rescue can be canceled at any time.
- Helicopter transport is considered when pre-hospital ground transport to a Trauma Center is > 20 minutes.
- Helicopter transport is considered when pre-hospital scene extrication time of a trauma patient is > 20 minutes.
- Helicopter transport is considered for Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI) involving multiple patients with traumatic injuries.
- Helicopter transport is considered for use of blood products at the scene.
- Helicopter transport is considered for Stroke alerts when ground transport is > 40 minutes, preferred transport to Joe DiMaggio or Broward Health Medical Center for all pediatric stroke alerts.
- Discretion should be used for patients weighing 350lbs-500lbs when determining if air transport is the preferred method.
- The flight crew must be capable of loading, unloading, and treating patients within the confines of the aircraft.
