Heat Transfer

Conduction is the transfer of heat through direct contact between objects or substances. Convection is the transfer of heat through the movement of a fluid, such as air or water. Radiation is the transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves.

Conductors have high thermal conductivity and allow heat to flow easily through them. Insulators have low thermal conductivity and prevent heat from flowing easily through them.

Radiation is the emission of electromagnetic waves, including heat waves, from a source. Absorption of radiant heat occurs when an object absorbs the radiation and converts it into thermal energy.

Sea breezes occur when the land heats up faster than the sea during the day, causing warm air to rise over the land and cooler air from the sea to flow in, creating a breeze. This is an example of convection as a form of heat transfer.

The control of heat in the modern home can be achieved through insulation, proper ventilation, and the use of heating and cooling systems such as central heating, air conditioners, and thermostats.
