Study Notes
Hazard Class 1: Explosives
- Class 1.1: Contains explosives with mass explosion hazard, affecting nearly the entire load instantly.
- Class 1.2: Includes explosives with projection hazards, but no mass explosion hazard.
- Class 1.3: Composes of explosives that mainly present a fire hazard; may have minor blast and/or projection hazards, but do not pose a mass explosion threat.
- Class 1.4: Consists of explosives with no significant blast hazard; minor explosion effects confined to the package with no expected projection of large or far-ranging fragments.
- Class 1.5: Contains very insensitive explosives or blasting agents that have a mass explosion hazard but are unlikely to ignite or transition from burning to detonation under normal transport conditions.
- Class 1.6: Includes extremely insensitive detonating substances, presenting negligible risk of accidental initiation or explosion propagation.
Hazard Class 2: Gases
- Class 2.1: Describes flammable gases that can easily ignite.
- Class 2.2: Refers to non-flammable, nontoxic compressed gases; yellow placards may indicate oxidizing gases.
- Class 2.3: Covers poisonous gases that are toxic when inhaled.
Hazard Class 3: Flammable Liquids
- Consists of flammable liquids that emit vapors in air, which can ignite.
