- Founded on May 25, 1981, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a political and economic group of six Gulf states
- Members: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
- Total area: 2.5 million square kilometers
- 2008 population: approximately 38.6 million
- 2008 GDP: US$1.054 trillion
- Controls a majority of OPEC oil reserves
- Contributes to more than 30% of the world's crude oil exports
