What is Grammatical Gender?

Grammatical gender refers to a system used by some languages where nouns and pronouns have inherent genders. In English, there isn't much of a distinction when it comes to grammatical gender because most singular nouns end with -(e)s. However, in languages like French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, and Russian, each noun has its own set of rules for grammatical gender. This means that in these languages, you can't just look at the word itself to determine its gender; rather, you must memorize which category each word falls into based on factors such as how they sound or their meaning.

In contrast, in Hindi, almost all nouns fall under one of two categories— masculine and feminine—which are determined by the gender of their antecedents. Most common nouns are either masculine or neuter, while rare ones may be feminine.

Difference between Masculine Plural and Neuter Plural in Hindi

In Hindi, plural is formed from the singular form by adding particles or inflections. There are three types of plurals in Hindi: regular, irregular, and special forms. Regular plurals receive suffixes which indicate plurality without any change in meaning or usage of the stem. On the other hand, irregular plurals do not follow this pattern and require learning new spellings. Finally, special forms exist only in certain cases and usually indicate collective entities.

The difference lies mainly in using different suffixes for forming plurals depending upon whether the noun is masculine or neutral. For example, if the noun ends in a consonant cluster ('m'), 'a', 'o', etc., the corresponding plural form will typically go up by one rung of conjugated verbs in the case of third person singular active voice (active infinitive) and down one rung of verb tenses in passive voice. Another difference appears in compounds, where a singular compound is treated like a single unit within plurals.
